The “Mommy” Car

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Yes, it’s official. I now have a “Mommy” car. We went to the Century West BMW dealership on Saturday and picked up a new x3. In Monaco blue, as seen below.

It’s pretty fun but I haven’t really driven it much yet. All weekend Rick did the driving.. and then today I took it in to get the radio to work and some other customizations done.. They gave me a loaner car, a z4 (the little two-seater covertible sports car).. which is probably the furthest thing from my “Mommy” car possible. I have to say, it’s sort of unfair to do that to me. Here I am, coming to terms with being a wife and soon a mom.. and then they hand me this super fast, super fun, super-un-Mommy car.

It is pretty nice though.. and I can’t wait to get used to it. No more crazy noise or bumping along the road without breaks like I did in the Jeep Wrangler. Of course the catch is that now Rick and I need to sell off the Jeep… Until then, we have three cars.

PROOF! almost

This dad (to be) has been known to tell a tall tale or two in his day. As days go on the tales get taller and the truth may be stretched a little thin sometimes. That’s no reason to call me a liar. In case there was some doubt in your mind that this “marriage” was just one of those goofy stories mom (to be) & I tell, here’s some proof that the whole things is legit and on the up & up.

We’re Going to the Chapel and We’re Gonna Get Married…

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Wow! Only 2 days away from getting hitched!

Yes, for all of you who don’t know, Rick and I are getting married. This Saturday. In Vegas. At the Graceland Wedding Chapel. Apparently Elvis will walk me down the aisle and sing two songs! (We still haven’t picked them out yet! Any suggestions?) The wedding is Saturday afternoon and followed by dinner at Tableau at the Wynn. I can’t wait for dinner - they have nine-course tasting menus, one for meat-eaters and one for vegetarians like me! I ate there once before - two summers ago - and it was just amazing! Expensive, but totally worth it.

Some folks have asked where Rick and I are registered.. I keep thinking they mean for the baby.. But then they say they mean for the wedding. Well, just to fill you all in, we’re not registered anywhere for this wedding. We are planning on having a real wedding reception and the rest in a year - when I am not pregnant - so we’re waiting to register when we have that one. We’re thinking we’ll just do a honeymoon registry too.. but, clearly, that is a year away so none of that has been setup yet. For now, this is the year of the baby.. Next year can be the year of the wedding.

So I am excited but still don’t have a dress to wear. I bought a perfect one but I’ve gained too much weight with the baby.. It doesn’t fit over my chest! (Yes! The baby tummy fits but the boobs don’t!) I frantically went to David’s Bridal last night to try to find an alternative but nothing worked. Everything there is too formal, too much or just too God-awful. Since I’m only 2 days away, I think I’ll have to take a personal day tomorrow to go shopping and find something. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, right? The good - or bad - news is that Rick also doesn’t have anything picked out yet to wear… He thinks he is going to buy an outfit in Vegas on Saturday morning before the wedding. That makes my day-before dress shopping look less crazy, or so I want to think.

Cancun Vacation

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

We’re just back from over a week’s vacation in Cancun. The first two days we were flying solo at the Hyatt Regency and then we joined Rick’s family for a week at the Royal Sands Resort.

The Hyatt was a complete disaster. Not because the hotel itself was bad - the buffet breakfast was pretty good if a little overpriced - but because they were trying to be the Hard Rock of hip-hop in Cancun. Rick and I felt like we were perpetually stuck in an episode of MTV Cribs. Music blaring at the pool from 11am til 6pm and then it moved and blared from the lounge from 6-10 or so. You know you’re getting old when you go downstairs to complain about the DJ!

The Royals Sands was nice - they had a great big pool with a swim-up bar and then another fairly large pool for the kids - only 18 inches deep. Normally that wouldn’t be a selling point but when you’re carrying a baby, you start to notice these things. Plus we were traveling with kids so making sure they are entertained is the surest way to make sure the adults in charge have fun too.

Here’s some pictures.

While in Cancun I did not get to drink of the famous tequila.. but I did indulge in countless virgin cocktails. I also ate my fair share of nachos and got myself a nice bit of a tan. Being pregnant limits what you’re allowed to get away with - but I managed to go snorkeling one day by having us charter our own sail boat. They took us out for a bit and then let us jump in and snorkel over a small reef between Cancun and Isla Mujueres. Even the nephews - Andrew and Kaden - jumped in the ocean with us!

Baby is almost 2 lbs big now.. and it shows. He started relocating and moving up within me. He’s still practicing to be a kung-fu ninja.. or the next David Beckham.
